Mr. Gayan Dodangoda

Chief Executive Officer & Senior Vice President, SLNIPC

Mr. Gayan Dodangoda serves as Chief Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka National Institute of Professional Counsellors. He is a highly experienced professional with extensive expertise in psychotherapy, counselling, human resource management, administration and organisational leadership.

Through a distinguished career spanning counselling, education, corporate leadership and institutional development, he continues to make a lasting contribution to the advancement of mental health, professional counselling and human development in Sri Lanka.

Education

A dual foundation in management and psychology

He received his school education at Sri Palee College, Horana, and Gamini Central College, Ingiriya. Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic and professional excellence, he earned a Master of Business Management (MBM) and a Master's Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resource Management, both from the University of Colombo.

Driven by a passion for psychology and human development, he pursued advanced studies in psychology, psychotherapy and counselling under the direct mentorship of Prof. D.S. Ranawaka. Following three consecutive years of intensive training he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling, and continues to expand his knowledge and professional competencies under Prof. Ranawaka's ongoing guidance.

Over eight years in practice

As a Senior Psychotherapeutic Counsellor he has dedicated his career to improving individual and community well-being through counselling, psychotherapy and professional training — regularly conducting workshops and development programmes for corporate organisations, educational institutions and community groups on psychological well-being, personal growth and life enhancement.

2020

Elected Vice President

In recognition of his unwavering dedication and valuable service to SLNIPC, its students and society at large, he was elected Vice President at the Annual General Meeting.

2022

Elected Senior Vice President

Owing to his continued commitment, leadership and significant contributions to the Institute, he was elected Senior Vice President at the AGM.

2024

Conferred Fellow Member (FIPC)

He was honoured with the Institute's highest membership category, being conferred the title of Fellow Member.

Appointed Chief Executive Officer

Recognising his tireless efforts in strengthening SLNIPC and advancing the counselling profession in Sri Lanka, Mr. Dodangoda was appointed CEO. He is entrusted with driving the Institute's strategic vision, implementing key management decisions, and leading its transformation toward new levels of professional excellence and societal impact.
